ChatGPT Ads · Heating and plumbing
ChatGPT Ads for Heating and Plumbing
Heating and water are topics people talk about the moment something stops working or a decision is due. In chat they describe noises, read out error codes and sort through funding questions. These are conversations with a clear trigger, and they almost always end with the question of who to call now.
Heating and plumbing companies count as local services, one of the verticals OpenAI cleared first in its ad policies (as of 31 August 2026), so no case-by-case approval is needed.
Conversation starters
How people ask in ChatGPT
Not search terms, conversations. This is roughly how the questions sound next to whose answer your ad should appear.
My heating is making strange noises, who do I call?
What does this error code on my boiler mean and is it urgent?
How often does a gas boiler need servicing and roughly what does it cost?
Is a heat pump worth it for my house or should I replace the boiler first?
Our water stays cold, is there an emergency service at the weekend?
Context hints
Context hints that match
Context hints describe the situation in which your offer helps. OpenAI matches them against the running conversation, not against a keyword.
Heating failure in winter, emergency callout with a fixed travel fee in the region
Owners of an older house checking a switch to a heat pump who want an on-site assessment first
Tenants and landlords clarifying who books the annual boiler service and what it costs
Families planning a step-free bathroom and looking for one company for design and installation
Homeowners with a leaking pipe who need someone today and are asking about availability
Examples following the OpenAI best practice, not exact match keywords.
Setup
What the campaign starts with
Campaign objective
For maintenance and consultation the booked appointment is the most honest conversion: start with clicks (CPC), and once appointment_scheduled fires reliably, create a new campaign with the conversions objective (oCPC) on that event. For emergency work the phone call stays the goal and is measured separately.
Landing page
Emergency service and maintenance each need their own page: availability, service area and a tap-to-call number at the top, a short form for scheduled appointments below. The page has to allow OAI-AdsBot and OAI-SearchBot, otherwise OpenAI cannot read it.
From my practice
Three mistakes that tend to cost money
Serving emergency conversations with renovation ads. From experience in auction channels, someone who needs help right now drops off when they are offered bathroom planning instead.
No information on travel area and availability. From my practice with auction channels, transferred to ChatGPT Ads: if both are missing, the prospect calls the next company instead of asking.
Betting everything on subsidy programmes. Funding copy ages quickly, and in my experience the steadier revenue comes from servicing and repairs.

Frequently asked questions
Do ChatGPT Ads fit emergency work or planned projects?
Both, but not in the same ad group. Emergency conversations need availability, travel area and the number, project conversations need advice and references. Separate context hints, ad copy and landing pages, otherwise neither side wins.
Will this bring in requests at night as well?
Ads appear when a matching conversation happens, and OpenAI lists time of day among the signals in the EEA. If your company does not answer at night, say so on the page: from experience in auction channels, an unanswered emergency call is more expensive than a click you never bought.
How do I measure calls when the pixel only sits on the page?
For forms and bookings you use the pixel or the conversions API with appointment_scheduled. Calls stay with your existing telephony solution and are attributed through UTM parameters and the oppref click reference OpenAI appends to the landing page URL.
Does this replace my Google Ads account?
No. Google Ads stays the foundation with active search, keywords and bids, ChatGPT Ads is an addition still in beta. I run the test on its own budget alongside, so the existing source of requests stays untouched.
